In addition to offering formal, structured job fairs and other events as part of our career services, we encourage professional networking from the first day of class. Fellow-students and instructors are sources of leads, advice and coaching. Our college creates an environment that fosters connections – connections that can lead to professional opportunities.
Networking from day one
Because our instructors are seasoned professionals in their fields, they are often able to steer students toward part-time jobs while the students are still in school. These jobs can lead to full-time employment upon graduation. Because they know the local market in their fields, our teachers become mentors and advisors to students seeking careers in an instructors’ area of expertise.
Our program advisory committees add to our placement program
Our program advisory committees (PACs), made up of local professionals, are also sources of career and job information. The members of these committees often pass along leads and tips to our career services staff who then refer students to appropriate job openings. Even though they seldom have direct student contact, our program advisory committees often have a big impact on our students’ futures.
